Napoli took the lead in the 18th minute when Romelu Lukaku released McTominay just inside Empoli's half and the Scotland international drove 30 yards with the ball before unleashing a fizzing effort into the corner. The midfielder bagged his second of the game with a looping header just after the hour mark.

McTominay has now scored nine league goals for Napoli, which is more than any other United player has managed this season. Questions will be asked if it was right to sell the 28-year-old but the Red Devils' loss is the Italian side's game as they try and stay in the Serie A title race.
